Perfect fit blinds can be the ideal solution for almost any room in your home. They are a stylish and innovative design which sits flush to your window and use a frame system that clicks in place and hence requires no drilling or screwing. This provides a neat solution which is clean and contemporary and looks fantastic. But the name ‘Perfect Fit’ suggests that measuring for this type of blind is really important, and it is.
The benefits of perfect fit blinds are that they take up less space, which allows you some flexibility and creative licence in a room. They are available in a variety of styles – such as Roller, Venetian, Wooden, Pleated and Day & Night – and are ideal for using on uPVC windows and doors. The no-drilling element of the design ensures your window and door frames are protected, but the ‘perfect fit’ element is perhaps the biggest factor in choosing this type of blind. Perfect fit blinds leave no gaps around the edges of your window, so light and heat can’t get through, ensuring good light control, privacy and thermal efficiency. But to achieve this you need to measure the space for the blinds accurately.
Measuring for perfect fit blinds
A golden rule to remember when measuring for perfect fit blinds is:
- Measure the visible glass area
Whether you are installing a perfect fit blind on a door or window, the same rule applies. This is the area you want to be covered by the blinds, and hence this is the area you need to measure. Some other top tips to remember when measuring for a perfect fit blind include:
- Use a good quality tape measure, ideally a metal one rather than a cloth or plastic one. These can be stretched and hence may provide a discrepancy in measurements compared to a metal tape measure, and with a perfect fit blind this can make a critical difference in terms of light control, thermal efficiency and aesthetic appeal.
- Don’t include the surrounding rubber bead in your measurements, only measure up to this point, ie. the visible glass.
- Measure all individual windows separately, for example on a bi-fold door or a bay window, don’t assume they are all the same size.
- Measure the width of a window at the top, middle and bottom to confirm the measurements are the same and the window is consistently straight. And do the same for the vertical drop.
- When measuring the depth of a window or door, don’t forget to allow for window and door handles which may obstruct the blind. Pivot the handle so it moves to its fully extended position and ensure your measurement will allow for sufficient clearance between the handle and the blind.
- Measure to the nearest millimetre and don’t round up or down. Even the smallest inaccuracy can impact on the effectiveness of your perfect fit blind.
